Silicosis

Silicosis is a lung condition that is caused by inhaling respirable crystalline silica dust (RCS). It iscontained within materials such as sand, stone, and clay. Silica is used significantly in construction materials like bricks and concrete.

You are at a higher chance of being exposed to silica and developing silicosis if you have worked in certain industries, including:

  • Manufacturing of bricks

  • Mining

  • Quarrying

  • Pottery

  • Construction

  • Demolition

The employer’s statutory duties are set out in the Control of Substances, Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations.  It is necessary to show that the worker has been exposed significant levels of respirable crystalline silica dust.

Claims for compensation can be brought against employers many years after the exposure.  But the passage of time can make it very difficult to prove who was responsible for the exposure.

At Simpsons Solicitors we have an experienced team of qualified specialist lawyers dedicated to handling these claims.  If you have been diagnosed with silicosis and worked with or around respirable crystalline silica dust, get in touch with us now, and one of our experienced team of qualified specialist personal injury lawyers will be able to advise you further.
